Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:20)
What a great description of where we are living today. All that is missing is a “Woe is me,” with sackcloth and ashes. The reference to the Last Days and the similarities of the certainties of today will be missed by most, because they will be going about business as usual without recognizing “the signs of the times.”
The sheer terror that could arise in our thoughts at the spectre of the certainty that “destruction will come suddenly” might overwhelm us and challenge our sanity if it were not for the deep understanding that one day “joy is coming.”
This thought is not unbridled, baseless positivism, or the collective delusion of cultish mystics; it is a foundational promise of which Christ followers have been assured. Jesus foretold his own death, that he would rise again three days later, and that “these things must be” in spite of the horror that these thoughts brought to the hearts of his followers.
The upside down, inside out, surreal wackiness of events today is also something that we must endure, as it is a symptom of the death throes of a sinful society; it is a tell-tale indicator of where we are on the continuum of history. We are at the leading edge of it all. And what a privilege we have been given to be in that “last generation” that is prologue to the return of Jesus, as He Promised.
So lie all you want, Bathhouse Barry. Celebrate the perverse and call the servants of God all the names that you can think of. Deceive many and call evil “good.” Your days are not only numbered, but your fate is certain, as are those of your master and the demons that you serve.
The wages of sin are death and the gift of God is eternal life. May we who have changed hearts and minds, transformed from those under the penalty of death to those with the certainty of eternal life in the presence of Almighty God, endure to the end and keep the faith.
