The government of Egypt is evidently not playing softball with the Muslim Brotherhood, which carried out a short but bloody reign of terror after taking power in Egypt in 2011. No doubt this is why the Obama administration’s rhetoric pertaining to the al-Sisi government has been so harsh lately.
In the wake of the overthrow of Egypt’s Islamist president Muhammad Morsi in 2013, the White House referred to Morsi’s ousting as a “coup,” despite the popular petition drive that led the military to oust him, and later suspended military aid to Egypt.
President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (who was serving during the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt) are known to have long-standing and very questionable ties to the ‘Brotherhood.
Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohammed Badie and 13 others have been sentenced to death by an Egyptian court for planning attacks against the state. Hundreds of people have been sentenced to death in a crackdown on the Brotherhood, following the removal of President Mohammed Morsi in 2013.
