On June 16th, during the announcement of his candidacy, Donald Trump said: “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you… They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with [them]. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
Distortions, Obfuscations and Lies by the Left and Its Collaborators
A host of leftist collaborators has crept out from the woodwork to exclaim that Trump’s statement was racist—a staple in the Left’s repertoire of deceptions. Another common tactic is to declare and “prove” Trump’s statement was false.
The Washington Post is a good example of such collaborators, with a recent article alleged to be a fact-check of Trump’s assertions. Yet—aware that many read only the headlines—their judgment is delivered in the title: “Donald Trump’s False Comments Connecting Mexican Immigrants and Crime.” This also utilizes the worn-out trick of blurring the line between legal and illegal immigrants. Trump was clearly talking about the latter.
The piece went on to a familiar leftist untruth:
“A range of studies show there is no evidence immigrants commit more crimes than native-born Americans. In fact, first-generation immigrants are predisposed to lower crime rates than native-born Americans.”
Let’s take a look at this “range of studies.”
WaPo attempts to refute Trump’s assertions with data from the Congressional Research Service—infamous for misstating the economics of ObamaCare, before its passage by Congress. CRS concludes, on page 6 of their report, that the percentage of noncitizens incarcerated is about the same as their percentage in the population. Nevertheless, crimes committed by those who should not be in the country add to the total. The CRS data is from 2009, Obama’s first year. Beginning then, a radical and bizarre reversal of ICE’s mission was implemented, after his appointment of a new ICE director and Assistant director.
New Policies Allow Criminal Aliens to Roam Free
In June of the next year, The National ICE Council, the union representing more than 7,000 agents and officers, issued a vote of “‘No Confidence’ in ICE Director Morton and Assistant Director Phyllis Coven,” according to Senator Jeff Sessions’s shocking “Timeline of the Obama Admin.’s Dismantling of Immigration Law.”
Ms. Coven was appointed to head up ICE’s new Office of Detention Policy and Planning, “established to design and oversee implementation of detention reform,” according to her profile on the Practicing Law Institute website. Read that office’s “reforms.”
Sen. Sessions reports the ICE Union accused the two of having “abandoned the Agency’s core mission of enforcing United States Immigration Laws and providing for public safety, and have instead directed their attention to campaigning for programs and policies related to amnesty.”
“ICE [Enforcement and Removal Operations are] currently overwhelmed by the massive criminal alien problem in the United States resulting in the large-scale release of criminals back into local communities….
“Criminal aliens openly brag to ICE officers that they are taking advantage of the broken immigration system and will be back in the United States within days to commit crimes….”
These accusations are supported by Center for Immigration Studies reports. From “Catch and Release,” a report by Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at CIS: “In 2013, ICE agents released 68,000 aliens with criminal convictions, or 35 percent of all criminal aliens they reported encountering.”
From a May, 2015 report, “ICE Still Releasing Criminal Aliens at a Rapid Pace”:
“According to documents provided to the House Judiciary Committee for a hearing last month, ICE released 30,558 convicted criminal aliens in FY 2014. These individuals had been convicted of 79,059 crimes, including 175 homicides, 373 sexual assaults, 186 kidnappings, and 14,014 impaired driving offenses (see the listing of conviction categories here).
“As of the end of March , ICE had released another 10,246 criminal aliens. This pace of criminal releases is down from 2013 and 2014 — but only because ICE is arresting far fewer people to start with, not because there are fewer to arrest. ICE arrests of criminal aliens are down 32 percent since this time last year, according to ICE records. Arrests of the most serious offenders are down by 22 percent over last year.”
Most of these releases took place because Obama administration policies required the offenders be let go, Vaughan says. “In some cases, judges will allow aliens to be released after a bond hearing, but the conditions are usually set by ICE, and ICE attorneys say that they have been instructed not to vigorously contest an alien’s request for release.”
There’s no question that all of these policies are deliberate, augmented by the Media’s discharge of a miasma of sympathy for illegal aliens. And even when ICE wants to do its job, radical-left policies on the local level frequently block its efforts.
Sanctuary Policies Endanger American Citizens: the Numbers
Here’s an excerpt of yet another report, by Jessica Vaughan; it’s entitled “Rejecting Detainers, Endangering Communities: Sanctuaries release thousands of criminals”:
“State and local sanctuary policies caused the release of more than 8,000 criminal alien offenders sought by ICE for deportation in 276 jurisdictions around the country over an eight-month period, according to ICE records obtained by the Center for Immigration Studies in a FOIA request.” [Emphasis mine.]
“Sixty-three percent of the individuals freed by local authorities had prior criminal histories or were labeled a public safety concern at the time of their release. Nearly 1,900 of the released offenders subsequently were arrested for another crime within that eight-month period.”
The report explains that “a detainer is the primary tool used by ICE to take custody of criminal aliens for deportation…” It gives notice that ICE intends to assume custody of an alien,” and includes info on the prisoner, and the risks he poses to the community.
“From January 1, 2014, to August 31, 2014, local law enforcement agencies refused to comply with a total of 8,811 detainers….63 percent of the individuals freed by local agencies had serious prior criminal records.”
Despite the effort, by those who wish America ill, to dismiss reports of criminal aliens as “anecdotal,” the number of criminal aliens released through sanctuary policies, combined with those released by ICE—or not even arrested—is in the tens of thousands annually.
Americans Can’t Find Jobs, but Illegals Given Work Permits
A February article from TheBlaze cites a report from the CIS and the tireless Jessica Vaughan, saying: “The Obama administration has…. handed out millions of work permits to illegal aliens and aliens with unknown legal status… since 2009” [Emphasis mine].
She says 982,000 were given to “illegal aliens or aliens unqualified for admission….” and 1.2 million work permits were issued to aliens who “had a visa status that does not authorize employment.”
That’s a total of 2,182,000 illegal work permits reportedly given out. In addition, “1.7 million were issued to aliens whose status was unknown, not recorded by the adjudicator, or not disclosed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services…”
In addition, the president’s unconstitutional DACA amnesty in 2012, shielding illegals brought here as children, benefitted 702,000 people, as of last December, according to Pew Research, out of 1.1 million eligible. Also in December, Obama executed a second amnesty of 4 million, and expanded the eligibility to 330,000 more people, under the previous DACA amnesty, by altering its terms, said Pew.
Pew notes: “More than half of unauthorized immigrants from Mexico (55%) and Central America (51%) will be eligible for deportation relief under the new or existing programs.” The same report notes that illegals from other areas of the world are affected, as well.
Interestingly, last September, NPR reported that the Mexican government pays the $465 application fee and legal costs for their citizens to access the DACA program. They may do the same with those eligible under the new amnesty, which was announced two months after the NPR report.
Sanctuary policies can be put up to far-left ideology, at the local level. But it’s mystifying what the objective of the Obama Administration is, to legalize such a vast number of unlawful aliens.
The jobs these individuals would compete for and soak up are overwhelmingly of the unskilled variety, affecting mostly Black and Hispanic Americans. Though the president and the Left feign compassion for these groups, they’re evidently not as caring as they profess to be. Why are they so much more concerned for illegals?
Perhaps, in their deranged worldview, their mission is to repay the world’s poor for what America has “stolen” from them. But freeing thousands of criminals, giving out millions of illegal work permits and legalizing millions who’ve entered unlawfully will do irreparable damage to America and its economy: the cost has been estimated in the trillions for the additional expense of welfare, medical care and education.
Add in the cost of ObamaCare, when it’s morphed into single payer—as is planned—and we’re headed for economic collapse. Those who snuck in to partake of the American dream will wind up sharing our nightmare. There’s no way the architects of this plan could really expect it to succeed.
That leaves us with only one possible interpretation: this is a massive attack on America, with the intent of transforming it into a third-world nation.
It’s even more mystifying why Republicans chose to fund these illegal acts.
