Democrat Henry C. “Hank” Johnson Jr. is the U.S. Representative for Georgia’s 4th Congressional district, which is based in DeKalb County, a suburban county east of Atlanta.
Sadly, it also apparently has a preponderance of voters who are lurching, bed-wetting morons, as congressional representatives tend to reflect the voter base in a given district. During a hearing on March 25, 2010, Johnson expressed a fear that the island of Guam could capsize if too many military personnel were stationed there.
Now, in response to Barrow County resident Jim Cooley’s recent publicity stunt (Cooley paraded through Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport with an AR-15 and a 100-round drum magazine of ammunition two weeks ago), Johnson has introduced legislation to prohibit the carrying of loaded weapons in the nation’s airports.
“The Airport Security Act is a common-sense bill, and I urge my colleagues to join me in keeping the traveling public safe,” Johnson said. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the bill has the support of 15 Democratic co-sponsors.
While Cooley’s act was legal (it is legal to open carry in unsecured areas of airport terminals where no other laws expressly hinder open carry), Johnson’s bill would institute a federal ban on the carry of loaded firearms, not only within the secured airport areas where they’re already banned, but in non-secure areas that don’t require a screening process for entry. Unloaded weapons, under Johnson’s bill, could be brought into the unsecured areas if they’re unloaded and locked up in cases.
On Monday from the House floor, Johnson referenced Cooley as having openly transported “a loaded AR-15 automatic weapon” through the airport. This is inaccurate; the AR-15 is not an automatic weapon. But inasmuch as Johnson is a booger-picking moron, this should be no surprise.
Unfortunately, the actions of shambling, incontinent idiots who happen to be U.S. Congressmen can have a lasting and deleterious effect on the general public. It is widely accepted that violent criminals have been known to target gun-free zones. Johnson’s bill would effectively declare “open season” for gun-toting criminals in U.S. airports. James Holmes, who killed 12 and wounded 70 during a shooting spree in a Colorado theater on July 20, 2012, intentionally targeted the theater because it had a posted “gun-free”policy.
Thus, it is only irrational liberal idiocy that perpetuates the practice of establishing such zones.
