Average Americans who are even a little aware of daily events are puzzled and frustrated by the policies of the Obama Administration, which are diametrically opposed to what mainstream America believes. Probably the most upsetting is their steadfast willingness to do backflips for Islam.
This is puzzling to many of us because Islam, or some part of it, has clearly declared war on America. We suffered a devastating attack September 11, 2001 on our own soil, perpetrated by Muslims. In addition, Muslims have attacked our allies, often in blood-chilling ways.
A particularly ferocious movement calling itself the “Islamic State” has swept over Iraq and Libya, and now threatens to overwhelm Egypt—three countries in which we have ousted or helped oust longtime dictators—and even attack Europe.
In the face of all this, Obama and his people refuse to make any connection between Islam and terrorism, creating ludicrous labels for terrorist acts like: “workplace violence.” This label was applied to the Fort Hood shooting, in which Army psychiatrist Major Nidal Hasan murdered 13 fellow soldiers and wounded 30 others.
Most assuredly, there is a broad streak of leftist ideology involved here. This “name game” obviously impairs our defense against the threat of radical Islam. This is so obvious, it raises the possibility that impairing our defense is the intent.
Lest you be perturbed, there is another possibility.
When ideology overwhelms reason and impairs a person’s ability to interpret reality and to perform daily functions, that person may have a mental disorder. The go-to source for psychiatric definitions is the DSM-5, which defines a mental disorder as: “a syndrome characterized by clinically significant disturbance in an individual’s cognition, emotion regulation, or behavior that reflects a dysfunction in the psychological, biological, or developmental processes underlying mental functioning….”
“Cognition” means thinking, which involves interpreting sensory input. So essentially, if you can’t appropriately decipher events you’ve observed, and that interferes with your mental functioning, you have a mental disorder.
Take, for example, the aforementioned Fort Hood massacre, in November of 2009. We might ask: is Major Hasan a nutcase? But here’s a better question: is the Army brass nuts?
The highest-ranking officer in the Army, Chief of Staff Gen. George W. Casey Jr. said on “Meet the Press” 3 days after the attack, “Our diversity not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.”
David Gregory asked about investigators’ statements that Hasan’s ‘counseling activities with the veterans appear to have further fueled his anger and hardened increasingly militant views as he was seeming to move toward more extreme religious beliefs….’ How did the Army miss this?” General Casey replied:
“I, I, I, I don’t want to say that we missed it.”
Yet, some might call the warning signs “obvious.” This was a man who had put “SOA” (Soldier of Allah) on his business card; and the Investigative Project on Terrorism reported that Hasan had made several declarations during his residency at Walter Reed Hospital that would alarm any prudent authority:
“Among the statements that disturbed his colleagues, Hasan declared that ‘It’s getting harder and harder for Muslims in the service to morally justify being in a military that seems constantly engaged against fellow Muslims.’
“A student who took an environmental health class with Hasan at Uniformed Services of the Health Sciences in Bethesda describes him as someone who believed the United States was waging war against Islam. At the end of the class, all of the students had to give a presentation. Many wrote about course-related topics such as dry-cleaning chemicals and mold in homes, Lt. Col. Val Finnell said.
“But Hasan (who told classmates he was ‘a Muslim first and an American second,’) chose instead to write about the wrongness of the war on terror. A former classmate told the New York Times that Hasan gave a PowerPoint presentation approximately one year ago entitled ‘Why the War on Terror is a War on Islam.’ ”
It’s worth noting, in our analysis, that in March of 2013, while awaiting trial in Fort Leavenworth’s maximum security prison, Major Hasan was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, in a small but solemn ceremony.
Duffelblog reported that Hasan “was ecstatic about the crossing of a major milestone in his military career and thanked all those in attendance. Meanwhile, protests were held outside the base, with people chanting ‘justice for the victims’ and ‘don’t promote.’ One participant stated that this ceremony was a ‘slap in the face of all the victims’ from the massacre. Base officials refused to comment, declaring that Hassan’s promotion was decided months ago by personnel management officials.” But, of course the massacre had occurred years earlier.
He had earlier received a Legion of Merit award from his superiors, when he was transferred to the prison, Duffelblog said, “Standard practice in the Army is to award soldiers a ‘Permanent Change of Station’ award reflecting the sum total of their contributions while at their installation. Since Hasan’s movement to Leavenworth’s maximum security facility was technically a Permanent Change of Station, he was submitted for the award as a formality.
“The award now hangs inside Hasan’s cell, below a framed letter from Osama Bin Laden, congratulating Hasan on the “successful slaughter of dozens of infidels.”
In thoroughness, we’d have to include the State Department’s statement via Marie Harf that “we cannot win this war” against ISIS by “killing them” and her suggestion that “we need…to go after the root causes” like “lack of opportunity for jobs.”
Moving up the food chain: last August, Secretary of State Kerry said it was our Biblical duty to protect Muslim-majority nations from the ravages of climate change. “Confronting climate change is, in the long run, one of the greatest challenges that we face, and you can see this duty or responsibility laid out in Scriptures clearly, beginning in Genesis. And Muslim-majority countries are among the most vulnerable.” We’re not sure why.
At the very top of the food chain, we find this report, that the Obama Administration has removed Iran and Hezbollah from the terror section of the 2015 “Worldwide Threat Assessment of the U.S. Intelligence Community.” The report links to a Brookings article reminding us that, among other terrorist acts, Hezbollah “in 1983 bombed the U.S. embassy and the Marine barracks hosting U.S. peacekeepers in Beirut, killing 17 embassy officials and 241 Marines.”
FrontPageMag’s Dan Greenfield reminds us that:
“Colonel William R. Higgins was captured by Hezbollah, the terrorist group acting as Iran’s hand in Lebanon, and tortured for months until his body was dumped near a mosque.
An autopsy report found that he had been starved and had suffered multiple lethal injuries that could have caused his death. The skin on his face had been partially removed along with his tongue and he had also been castrated.”
A final example of insanity is this report that First Lady Michelle Obama hosted a “Nowruz” celebration of the Iranian New Year at the White House, last week. Clearly ecstatic, the First Lady spoke before an enthusiastic group of Iranians.
She noted the celebration marked the renewal of the Earth in springtime, and also said “We have created our own White House Haft Seen.” That’s a traditional table setting of Nowruz. They also cooked a special traditional menu. She also mentioned that the White House is “the People’s House.”
